Honor the Día de los Muertos tradition by participating in Garland's 2024 Catrín/Catrina Contest! Show off your costume, creativity, and culture to win exciting prizes!

How to Enter:

Please complete the form below to submit your entry for the contest. The deadline to register is Friday, October 11, at 11:59 p.m. The registration deadline has been EXTENDED to Sunday, October 20, at 11: 59 p.m.

Please note: Submitting a form does not guarantee your spot. Due to limited slots, contestants will be notified of their participation by Monday, October 21.

Categories & Prizes:

There will be two categories: Adults (14+) and Children (2-13). Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in each category:

During the event, the master of ceremonies will briefly introduce all participants on stage. Then, the audience will evaluate costumes based on makeup, presentation, and creativity. All decisions and votes made by the audience are final.

Garland 2024 Dia de los Muertos Catrín/Catrina Contest Rules

1. Participation in the Contest is by one individual or a pair of contestants.
2. Any item that could damage the entrants, their costumes, the audience, or the facility is prohibited. Weapons or replicas, fire, and liquids are also prohibited.
3. The creation and presentation of costumes must be in good taste. Gore, graphic violence, nudity, swearing, or other objectionable elements may be grounds for disqualification as determined by the Contest staff. The Día de los Muertos Celebration is a family event, and we wish to maintain a comfortable atmosphere for all spectators while honoring the tradition and roots of Día de los Muertos.
4. Any participant may be disqualified from the contest by show or facility management for failure to observe any rules. All decisions made by the show or management are final.
5. All contestants must register in advance at VisitGarlandTX.com. Contestants should check in and be ready according to the event agenda. We will email registered participants with the check-in time and location.
6. Registered contestants must check in on time to remain in the contest. Contestants who do not arrive at the check-in location on time will be disqualified.
7. Please arrive in costume, as dressing facilities will not be available.
8. Entrants are responsible for their belongings. We are unable to provide a secure area for personal items. Contestants may bring an assistant to help with belongings.
9. If you have questions about the Catrín/Catrina Contest rules and registration, please email specialevents@garlandtx.com with "Catrín/Catrina Contest" in the subject line.
10. If you use spam-blocking software, please adjust your settings to accept specialevents@garlandtx.com so you can receive email communication.
11. We will only use your email or phone number to notify you if you are selected as a finalist. Rest assured, your contact information will remain private and will not be shared with third parties. By entering the contest, you grant The City of Garland permission to use your entry for Día de los Muertos marketing purposes.

Participants in the Día de los Muertos event will proudly walk on stage as the master of ceremony introduces them. The audience will focus on the costumes while also appreciating makeup, presentation, and creativity.

All decisions and votes by the audience are final.

Reglas de Garland's 2024 Dia de los Muertos Catrín/Catrina Concurso

1. La participación en el concurso es de una persona o un par de concursantes.
2. Cualquier artículo que pueda dañar a los participantes, sus trajes, el público, o la instalación está prohibido. También están prohibidas las armas o réplicas, el fuego y los líquidos.
3. La creación y presentación de trajes debe ser de buen gusto. Sangre, violencia gráfica, desnudez, juramento u otros elementos objetivos pueden ser motivos para la descalificación determinada por el personal del concurso. La celebración de Día de los Muertos es un evento familiar, y queremos mantener un ambiente cómodo para todos los espectadores, honrando la tradición y las raíces de Día de los Muertos.
4. Cualquier participante puede ser desclasificado del concurso por la dirección de exposiciones o instalaciones por incumplimiento de cualquier regla. Todas las decisiones tomadas por el espectáculo o la dirección son definitivas.
5. Todos los concursantes deben registrarse por adelantado en VisitGarlandTX.com. Los concursantes deben registrarse y estar listos de acuerdo con la agenda del evento. Le enviaremos un correo electrónico a los participantes registrados con el momento y la ubicación del check-in.
6. Los concursantes registrados deben registrarse a tiempo para permanecer en el concurso. Los concursantes que no lleguen a tiempo al lugar del check-in serán descalificados.
7. Por favor lleguen en disfraz, ya que los vestidores no estarán disponibles.
8. Los participantes son responsables de sus pertenencias. No podemos proporcionar un área segura para artículos personales. Los concursantes pueden traer a un asistente para ayudar con las pertenencias.
